The challenge of this year's Beer Advocate Extreme Beer Fest was to truly push the boundaries of brewing by thinking beyond highly hopped and alcoholic beers and to brew a creative beer that's 5% ABV or lower and retains its drinkability. We tackled the challenge ourselves by brewing this BeerAdvocate.com/Dogfish Head collaboration which is a Kombucha tea inspired brew flavored with organic lemon peel, organic Assam and Sencha teas then fermented by a cocktail of symbiotic organisms cross-pollinating each other. The result is a light bodied yet flavorful drink with a tart flavor somewhat similar to Belgian Lambic beers but also displaying hints of earthy tea.
The beer will be available exclusively at Extreme Beer Fest (March 12, 2011) and Dogfish Head's Weekend of Compelling Ales and Whatnot (April 1-3, 2011). Dozens of name entries were collected during the Happy Hour with BeerAdvocate & Dogfish Head on February 9, 2011. The final 8 entries were picked by Jason, Todd and Sam Calagione and then voted on by the BeerAdvocate online community. We hope you dig our Kombucha beer!
