Cuvée Noir

Cuvée Noir is a special beer brewed for New Year’s Eve 2013.  Inspired by both the famous Farmhouse Ales of Belgium and the world-renowned wines of Bordeaux, France, this very special ale combines two of our favorite things, beer and wine.  Our friends at Keystone Homebrew in Montgomeryville, PA hooked us up with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot juice from California, as well as some amazing grapes/must originating from the heart of Tuscany in the Chianti wine-making region of Italy.  These special Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petite Verdot grapes from Vino Supierore are all organic and DOCG certified (Denominazione di origine controllata  or "Controlled designation of origin").  These were added to a strong dark saison base beer and then fermented with a blend of Belgian yeast and the resident wine yeasts existing in the must.  The result is a deeply moving complexity of wine forward tannic acidity with dry yet malty undertones.  Deep cherry in color with blood red hues, this ale continues our exploration of blurring the lines between beer and wine.

Cuvée Noir will be tapped at noon on 12/31/13 and will be around until it's all gone!
