The Turks have a saying: "Coffee should be black as hell, strong as death, and sweet as love." When our pals at Burlap and Barrel hooked us up with some wild harvested terebinth from Turkey, our first thought was, "What the hell is this and when are we brewing with it?" The terebinth tree (aka Turpentine Tree) produces a nut that is roasted and boiled in milk to create a caffeine-free Turkish coffee called Menengic coffee (aka "Turpentine Coffee"). The good folks at Rise Up Roasters roasted this Turkish delight especially for us and also provided a wonderful roast coffee of their own as a counterpoint.  We brewed up a dense milk stout then added hot brewed Menengic coffee & cold-brewed roast coffee to the finished beer for a wonderful expression of espresso with notes of roasted cacao and toasted nuts. Black as hell? Check. Strong as death? Close. Sweet as love? Ah, yes. Note:  Contains lactose and tree nuts.
