Holy cow – we live here... and it's awesome!

Wednesday, January 14, 2015

You know how when you live somewhere, you don't do all the things that visitors want to do when they visit your hometown? Then you have out-of-town guests and they say, 'Let's do that thing you'd never get around to doing?" And you do it. And that's when you realize that you need to get out more!

A new video from our friends over at Delaware Tourism made us do that – and (bonus!) we didn't have to house weekend guests to get the same rush of, "Holy cow - I live here! And its awesome!"

To be fair, I do know that coastal Delaware is pretty darn great. I've lived here now for more than 20 years, and my wife was born and bred, so between the two of us we can make a lot of recommendations of how to spend a day, a weekend, a week, or more in the area. Even so, when I watch this video I think, "Wow!"

I get out on my bike or paddleboard at least 4 or 5 times a week, year round. In the summer we hit the beach at least once a weekend. We frequent a lot of the great, independent restaurants in our beach town. We bring our beach chairs to the outdoor concerts, movies on the beach & Fourth of July fireworks. We love spending every minute we can at the Firefly Music Festival. The rich history of the museums in northern Delaware are a draw, as are the two National Wildlife Refuges and many state parks. And that's just the beginning ...

So, instead of thinking Dela-where? Think Delaware! Small wonder, indeed.

Oh – and you still aren't swayed to visit us here in the First State, let us lure you with the chance to win a free trip! The same folks at DE Tourism who swayed us with the video are running a contest for the Ultimate Weekend Getaway ... and it includes two nights in the 'Sweet!' at the Dogfish Inn, a gift card to our brewpub and a whole lot more! Enter here by 1/31/15.

Even if you don't win, think about paying us a visit! And if I don't see you at the brewery Tasting Room or the pub, maybe we'll pass each other on the bike path.

Cheers
