Exclusive Beer Pays Tribute To Michael Jackson

Monday, September 10, 2007

In honor of the great beer-writer Michael Jackson, who passed away recently, the Michael Jackson's Rare Beer Club is offering a very special commemorative beer that we thought you may want to know about.....

From the folks at the Michael Jackson's Rare Beer Club.....

As a special fundraising tribute to our friend, Michael Jackson, and only while the remaining bottles last: A Very Special Commemorative Belgian Beer, and $10 per bottle will be donated to the National Parkinson Foundation.

Michael's untimely passing on August 30th left so many of his friends and fans searching for something to do to show their appreciation for all that he gave to us.  The Rare Beer Club would like to offer one option to the first 300 people who respond to this offer - as $10 per bottle, or $30 for your 3-bottle purchase, will be donated directly to the National Parkinson Foundation in Michael's name.  Only 900 bottles remain from this one-time brew, bottled for the 2006 holidays.   Please join us in raising this important $9,000.

The story of the beer below was written when it was brewed and first released last December:

In the world of truly sophisticated beer, there is one man who has, without question, changed the way that those brews are created and enjoyed more than any other single person – and though he rarely sings or dances, his name is Michael Jackson. He has dedicated more than 3 decades to the pursuit and documentation of the world’s finest beers, and with 7 books on the subject, is the most widely-published and influential author on the subject. He has been honored in 7 countries, developed a cult television series known as “The Beer Hunter”, and has contributed articles to countless magazines and newspapers.

Michael is especially well-known for his particular passion for the specialty brews of Belgium, and his bestseller The Great Beers of Belgium has recently been printed in its 5th edition. He believes that in no other country are the beers so food-friendly as in this place where it is given the same respect as wine. To commemorate all that he has done for Belgium, one of the country’s most entrepreneurial brewers has created a special edition beer just for Michael.

Malheur Brut Reserve, Michael Jackson Commemorative Selection 2006 is produced using the same fermentation methods as in Champagne, including the same yeast, and in a bottle that looks like it should contain bubbly wine – but this is a complex, extraordinary beer. It is aromatic, perfumy, slightly oily with suggestions of peach stones and roses; the extra Saaz hops used in this edition add to the distinct nose . The body is firm and slippery smooth. The flavors are tightly combined, and restrained: vanilla, peach, orange, lemon curd. The finish is crisp and quite dry, with an alcohol content of 11%. This is a wonderful food or cocktail beer, the perfect bottle to bring out for entertaining.
