Josh Brewer, winner of the $10,000 "What Brew Are You?" contest visited Dogfish Head recently as part of his first place prize. Back in 2005, starting with nothing more than a home brewing Josh Brewer, winner of the $10,000 "What Brew Are You?" contest visited Dogfish Head recently as part of his first place prize. Back in 2005, starting with nothing more than a home brewing kit, Sam Calagione founded Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and made it America's fastest growing independent beer company.  His unconventional business story, as told in his book Brewing Up a Business (Wiley; October 2006; $16.95; Paper), reveals how Calagione found success by dreaming big, working hard, and thinking differently - and how anyone else can do it too! To help other entrepreneurs achieve success, Calagione and his publisher, Wiley, recently hosted a consumer contest challenging would-be entrepreneurs to bring the spirit of building a business, from the ground up, to life. Contestants were asked to send a video pitch of their business dream; the dream “brewing” within. Videos submitted for the aptly named "What Brew Are You?" contest were posted on YouTube and the newly created contest website, www.whatbrewareyou.com. Viewers had their chance to vote, and the winner of the best business plan, selected by Calagione, won $10,000 in start-up money and the opportunity to meet and talk with Calagione at Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Delaware. Contest winner Josh Brewer (no pun intended on the last name), at the age of 32, was Calagione’s top pick. Brewer’s long-held dream of creating Brewer’s Brewing Company, LLC will now be a reality. His plan calls for an 85-seat restaurant featuring a 7 US Barrel (bbl) brewing system, located at the Beaufort (South Carolina) Town Center. On Friday, March 30, 2007, Josh Brewer traveled to Delaware to meet Sam Calagione and tour the Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Milton. Brewer will spent two nights in the Brewmaster's Suite at the Inn At Canal Square in Lewes, visited the Milton brewery and spent valuable time with Calagione, Wiley Vice President of Marketing, Larry Olson, and Dogfish staff members, learning about the beer business, and discussing plans for his new business venture.
