Sandpipers, Seals and Scoters…Oh My! Delmarva BirdINNg Weekends Are Here!

Tuesday, January 30, 2024

The Dogfish INN is excited to explore the goodness of the Delmarva Peninsula once again with our friends at Delmarva BirdINNg Weekends in 2024! We just wrapped up the first one of the year, and the next one, which is set to take flight from March 8 to 10, is right around the corner! Be sure to visit delmarvabirding.com to register!

The January Winter BirdINNg Weekend made a splash with 112 species sighted on nine excursions over a span of four days. Throughout the weekend, folks had the opportunity to personally tailor their birdINNg experience by choosing from a diverse array of a la carte field trips, spanning from visiting state parks to hopping on a boat cruise, and (of course) having a beer at the tally rally!

Field trips included adventures into Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Cape Henlopen State Park, the inlets at Indian River and Ocean City, Newport Farms, and the amazing “Scoters, Seals & Slightly Mightys” boat tours in Lewes.

Some of the highlights from the January BirdINNg weekend included sightings of great cormorants, an Eastern screech owl, a razorbill, loads of buffleheads and even harbor and gray seals! Did you know that Lewes is one of the only locations on the Peninsula where you can spot seals?

For folks in search of some additional outdoor excursions throughout the weekend, look no further, because the Dogfish INN is Coastal Delaware’s Basecamp for Mother Nature! We’re just a short bike ride or walk from the beach, Cape Henlopen State Park and loads of other outdoor activities. Rent one the INN’s custom Priority E-Bikes and explore historic Lewes or the surrounding bike trails. Maybe you’ll even find yourself in downtown Rehoboth, where you can warm up with a brewpub exclusive at Brewings & Eats or a handcrafted cocktail at Chesapeake & Maine.

Pair your birding and outdoor experiences with a stay at the Dogfish INN and some Dogfish Head craft brewed ales and / or canned cocktails! See you on the trails, at the parks or around the Cowboy Cauldron!

So, what do ya say?! Ready to go birdINNg?? Registration is now open for the March Winter BirdINNg Weekend. Head to delmarvabirding.com to sign up for excursions, and visit dogfish.com/inn to book your stay with us.
