Fresh-hop brew, weekly specials return to our Rehoboth pub

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

It's hop-harvest season, and that means Wet Hop American Summer is back on draft at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats in Rehoboth Beach, Del. Our annual fresh-hop brew gets a new twist every year, and this time around the base is a dark American wheat beer.

Wet Hop American Summer "After Dark" is a dark, smooth and drinkable ale with a huge nose of juicy fruit and grassy mango. There are notes of bready malt and coffee, and the finish is clean and silky.

hopAll citra, all the time.

This harvest-season special is made with 40 pounds of Citra hops that were freshly picked and overnighted to coastal Delaware. Ninety-five percent of the hops were added in the last 15 minutes of the boil – and post-boil in our makeshift hopback – for maximum flavor and aroma.

We used two-row, wheat and cara malts, mixed with a smidgen of Briess Midnight Wheat, a debittered black wheat malt, that lends this ale its blackish hue and mahogany highlights.  "After Dark" clocks in at 5% ABV and 40 IBUs. It'll be on tap until it's gone. Sorry, no growlers.

And now that peak vacation season is in the rearview mirror, our weekly specials have returned to the pub.

  • Tuesday: $6 burgers all day, including turkey burgers, veggie burgers and chicken sandwiches with a side of fries.
  • Thursday: $6 pizzas all day, including two toppings.

And don't forget live original music at 10 p.m. every Friday and Saturday!

Hope to see you at the pub. Cheers!
