Husband & Wife Team Create Art for Dogfish Labels

Type: Education

Start Date: 2/13/2007

Location: Milton, DE

Dogfish Head is pleased to unveil the artwork of husband and wife team of David Larned and Sarah Lamb for the first new Dogfish Head beer releases of 2007.

Dogfish President Sam Calagione first met the couple in 2006 and was struck not only by their amazing ability to capture their subjects, but by their love of beer! David and Sarah are lucky enough to have beer on tap in their house (and oftentimes it's Dogfish!).

Ladies first -

For her Red & White label, Sarah painted a remarkable still life of a glass of the beer, orange peel, hops and coriander. Sarah is represented by galleries in New York (Spanierman Gallery, 45th E 58th St) and San Francisco (John Pence Gallery, 750 Post Street).

From the John Pence Gallery website, Sarah Lamb is an adventurous and talented oil painter who is equally adept with still lifes, florals and figures. Her work is rich in color and her compositions are edgy. She brings a deep emotional articulation to her canvases which adds to the allure of her oeuvre .

Lamb is an alumnus of the prestigious Water Street Atelier in Manhattan, led by her mentor Jacob Collins. Prior to attending Water Street, she graduated from Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia in 1993. In addition to the above institutions, she has chosen to work with tutors at the Art Students League in New York, the L'Ecole Albert Defois in France, as well as with Marc Chatov in Atlanta, Georgia.

Collectors from around the country have become avid fans of this young and dynamic painter. Her fluid, confident style and her uncanny ability to select subjects with strong appeal make her one of the most popular and sought after artists painting today. Lamb's colors are vibrant, her compositions are arresting, and she exercises the utility of a mature and practiced master at work.

Lamb has an impressive exhibition record with shows in fine galleries from coast to coast; including San Francisco, New York, Houston, Washington, D.C., and throughout her native South.

Sarah's hubby David Larned tackled the art for the Black & Blue label. David drew on his extensive experience as a portrait artist to portray our dapper young man enjoying a Dogfish Head Black & Blue with a shiner of his own.

From David's bio...

David Larned is a painter in love with the visible, world, particularly its people and places. Born in 1976 in NYC, he has dedicated himself to the art of observation. His paintings attempt to express the visual pleasure derived from simply "looking." Focusing primarily on portraits, landscapes, and still life he is always exploring through pain what makes an image so intensely beautiful. The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Florence Academy of Art have all helped him in these investigations. Currently working outside of Philadelphia he has exhibited in New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia, among other east coast venues, but most often executes commissioned works from his studio. David has won a variety of awards including semi-finalist in the National Portrait Gallery's Boochever Portrait Competition 2006 and the Donelson Figure Painting Prize and the Historic Yellow Springs Landscape Prize at PAFA. In 2004 the Biggs Museum of American Art held a comprehensive exhibition of his recent work.
