Dogfish Head Craft Brewery wins two medals in international beer competition

Seattle, WA " 4/14/06 -Dogfish Head Craft Brewery (Milton, DE) recently claimed silver and bronze medals in the Brewers Association (BA) World Beer Cup® 2006, a global beer competition that evaluates beers from around the world and recognizes the most outstanding beers being produced in the world today.

Gold, silver and bronze medals in the competition's 85 beer-style categories were awarded April 14, 2006 during the World Beer Cup Gala Awards Ceremony and Dinner at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center in Seattle, Wash., U.S.A.

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery was awarded a silver medal in the Specialty Honey Lager or Ale category for it's Midas Touch Golden Elixir. The beer recipe is based on residue found in King Midas' tomb. The Dogfish recreation of the recipe showcases the known ingredients of barley, white Muscat grapes, honey & saffron found in the tomb's drinking vessels Somehwere between a beer, wine and mead, the Midas Touch is a smooth, dry ale that pleases the Chardonnay or India Pale Ale drinker alike.

Dogfish Head also won a bronze medal in the Belgian-style Sour Ale category for its Festina Lente, a neo-lambic ale that goes through both a yeast and bacteria fermentation and is then aged on oak chips and 400 pounds of Delaware peaches. Festina Lente is very tart and complex. It is bottle-conditioned in champagne bottles.

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery is a 50-bbl. microbrewery located in Milton, Delaware that specializes in off-centered ales. Dogfish Head also has a brewpub/distillery in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and Dogfish Head Alehouse in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

World Beer Cup 2006 winners were selected by an international panel of 109 beer judges from an impressive field of 2,221 entries received from 540 breweries in 56 countries. More than 3,800 breweries in 100 countries were invited to compete.

The 109 judges were from 18 countries: (3) Australia, (1) Austria, (8) Belgium, (3) Canada, (1) Cayman island, (1) Czech Republic, (3) Denmark, (1) Finland, (12) Germany, (1) Italy, (4) Japan, (3) Netherlands, (2) New Zealand, (1) Romania, (1) Singapore, (2) Sweden, (8) UK, (55) USA.
