I had always insisted that I hated beer and would not try it. My husband (boyfriend at the time) was joking around and said if I ever wanted him to marry me that I would have to learn to like the taste of beer. So of course I tried. I started with the watered down garbage and didn't love it. Then I watched Beer Wars and had to try your beer. I like to support small business and loved that the comment number went directly to you. So I went out and bought 90 min IPA. The taste was not for me but I was determined to find a beer that you made that I liked. So when my husband was stationed in DC I was beyond thrilled when we drove by a Dog Fish restaurant. I ordered the sampler and fell in LOVE with the shelter pale ale. When I came back to CT I was disappointed when my package store didn't carry it. So I bugged them for a month until they ordered it. They got cases and I was excited.
So, now for the kicker. I finally find a beer that I crave and I find out that I am gluten intolerant. Ya. So I beg you to please consider making a gluten free beer for 2011.
By the way, the restaurant was amazing! The food was delicious and the staff was super friendly!
Please please please come out with a gluten free beer. I just found out I am Gluten intolerant and can't enjoy your beers. I currently have a mixed case sitting in my house doing nothing. Oh the agony. I have tried (and am even sorry to admit) AB Red Bridge. I bought a 6 pack, drank 1/2 a beer and threw it away. NASTY. I did see a beer brewed by Green's from England but at $6 a bottle and with the AB experience I am hesitant to waste any more money on "bad" beer. I currently have a 4 pack of your 120 IPA, so you know I am not affraid to buy expensive "great" beer. Are any of your spirits Gluten free? Please help I know a lot of other people are starting to find out they can't have gluten. Thank you!
This is not to say these people are not Dogfish fans. We weep while we grit our teeth as we watch others sip a freshly tapped 90min or the latest seasonal craft. Adulthood (AKA recognized physical decay of normal body function) is cramping our set lifestyles and identities built around few passions-beer and biking. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let us gluten-intolerant people rejoin the "normal" population of beer aficionados! Rise to the challenge of crafting a palatable gluten-free beer. You've proven your expertise with barley/malt bases and a willingness to dive into analytical chemistry. It is time to tap the nutty flavors of Teff, Quinoa, Amaranth, Sorghum, Buckwheat, Mahogany and Wild rice...get in touch with the biodiversity of grains and explore the brewing possibilities. We are a growing population whose frustration can be calmed with a Dogfish Gluten-Free brew!
I was also wondering if any of the ales are gluten free, due to the unique ingredients you folks use. My wife has been a long time lover of good beer and has also recently found that she is gluten intolerant so she too has been relegated to the few companies like AB/Bards that have attempted to putfourth a satisfying beer-but all really fall short. I just finished sampling the wonderful Theobroma and as I was viewing the ingredients noted that there arent any gluten allergens listed...not to say there not in there but they arent listed.
SO are any of the ales/brews gluten free?? and if not WE BEG, "please brew" - we'll be lifers and dedicated to your intoxications
Another celiac victim relegated to never being able to drink Dogfish brews again, unless you come out with a gluten free product. There are few out there, and with all the inventiveness of Dogfish, i know that you can brew a fine beer that those of us remember before our diagnosis. As there are approximately 3 million celiacs in the country, and a number of other people that for whatever reason can't tolerate gluten, you'd have quite the market!
There are very few GF beers on the market, and they are okay (I've only tried New Grist and Bard's, but have heard disappointment from many). It would be great to have options! It's almost getting trendy, which is good for those of us who have no choice.
Green's is good (but expensive!) - can't wait for January!
I'm a recently-diagnosed Celiac, who is still adjusting to gluten-free life. I agree that Red Bridge is bad, but I've found Green's to be very good - but also, very (very!) expensive! I can't wait for January 2012 when your gluten-free product is supposed to hit the shelves!
Thanks - sorry to say that I know of no plans (through 2010) for gluten-free beers from Dogfish. I will certainly share your comments, of course!!!
