We love original stuff here at Dogfish Head... we view the beer in our bottles as a form of original art, we book original musicians to play our pub in Rehoboth Beach, and we love to tap the shoulders of other artists to work with!
We sometimes don't look very far to come up with our art...
In-house artists include Founder / President Sam Calagione (who is responsible for the artwork on many of our labels and lots of the art you see in our ads), Lead Brewer Bryan Selders (he designed the label for Pangaea and the album covers for each of the Pain Relievaz albums), and Bryan's wife Ali Selders (she is our in-house screenprinter and produces our Noneons).
In addition, it's been fun finding outside artists who share our off-centered bent....
Our series of Limited Release 4-packs of beer (Immort Ale, Burton Baton, Olde School Barleywine and Raison D'Extra) features original art by artist Jon Langford. Not only is Jon a great musician (founding member of legendary British rock band the Mekons and also a member of the Chicago band the Waco Brothers), but he also is known for his unique multi-layered painting technique.
If the bold design of our Fort and Chateau Jiahu labels catch your eye, props should go to graphic artist Tara McPherson. Tara is a painter, poster artist and freelance illustrator based out of New York City. Tara's array of art includes painted covers for DC Vertigo Comics, advertising and editorial illustrations for companies such as Fanta and Spin Magazine, and numerous gig posters for rock bands such as Green Day, Modest Mouse and Death Cab For Cutie - and of course, Dogfish Head!
The husband and wife art duo of David Larned and Sarah Lamb get the credit for the paintings which grace the labels of our Red & White and Black & Blue beers. David is a landscape and portrait artist, while Sarah focuses on still-lifes. Sarah and David are big fans of Dogfish and have a fantastic little dog named Weezie.
Marq Spusta is a freelance California-based artist who designed both our Theobroma label and the "Damn" poster featuring the off-centered Dogfish pimp. In addition to Dogfish, Marq has created art for many great organizations, bands and people including, Bill Graham Presents, The Black Crowes, Conscious Alliance, Sex Pistols, My Morning Jacket, The Roots, Widespread Panic, New Balance and lots more.
