Like many small breweries, Dogfish Head began as a homebrewing hobby spun out of control. When Dogfish founder Sam Calagione began brewing beer in his kitchen, little did he know that he could someday make beer his job!

When Dogfish founder Sam Calagione began brewing beer in his kitchen, little did he know that he could someday make beer his job! The off-centered spirit of Dogfish Head came alive when Sam was mixing in whatever he could find in the kitchen cabinets.
Dogfish Head has grown from a 10-gallon to a 100-bbl brewkettle, but our mission to deliver off-centered ales to off-centered people is the same. Our hats are off to homebrewers!
