Meet Your Maté is the newest installment from our Co-Worker Small Batch Brewing program, this one created by our Tour Team from the Tasting Room in Milton. Their recipe consisted of classic English malts to shape a Pale Ale or Extra Special Bitter styled ale with the additions of brown sugar, Agave syrup, and Yerba Maté. Maté is an herb, highly popular in Central and parts of South America (Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina in particular) and when steeped in hot water is enjoyed much like tea, with a similar dry earthy taste (and a moderate amount of caffeine). This earthy character compliments and accentuates the herbal spicy bitterness contributed by English Fuggles hops. The Agave and brown sugar help balance this character along with the bready English malts to form delicate notes of honey and toasted bread.
Meet Your Mate will be tapped on Friday, 2/22/13 and will be around until it is all gone.
