Maine event: Sam and friends hosting beer dinner in Boothbay

Monday, July 21, 2014

Join Dogfish Head's Sam Calagione, Boothbay Craft Brewery's Win Mitchell and a few of their friends for a very special beer dinner on Wednesday, Aug. 6 at the Watershed Tavern in Boothbay, Maine.

The dinner, which kicks off at 6 p.m., will include a talk on the history of brewing in Maine from Josh Christie, author of "Maine Beer."

Tickets for the four-course dinner are $55 per person, plus tax, and each course will be paired with a 6-oz. pour from both Dogfish Head and Boothbay Craft Brewery. Guests also will take home a Dogfish pint glass and a Boothbay snifter.

Among the menu items are Dogfish Head's Hard-Tack Chowder and oysters from nearby Ebenecook Oyster Farm, owned and operated by Calagione's boyhood pal Colin Yentsch. Colin and his wife Sara also will be on hand to talk about how they nurture some of the best oysters in Maine.

After welcome beers and a meet-and-greet, seating will begin at 6:30.

Starter course
Fried oysters, fresh from nearby Ebenecook Oyster Farm, with Dogfish's Festina Peche and Boothbay's Flip Flop summer wheat.

Second course
Dogfish Head Hard-Tack Chowder, with Dogfish's Palo Santo Marron and Boothbay's Townsend English Mild. Based on a recipe from Herman Melville's classic American novel "Moby Dick," Hard-Tack Chowder is infused with 60 Minute IPA and reconstituted with Palo Santo.

Third course
Locally sourced grass-fed beef, with Dogfish's Ancient Ale Theobroma and Boothbay's Black Rocks Stout served on nitro.

Dessert
A surprise, with aged Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA and Boothbay's Cryptos triple IPA.
